Workshop overview
The Lloyd Auckland Invitational Mathematics (Auckland) workshop invites top-performing students from the CEMC’s Fermat Contest to participate in a week-long workshop staying on campus at the University of Waterloo. Since its inception in 1965, this prestigious workshop aims to foster mathematical talent in Grade 11 students from across Canada by offering a series of lectures, problem-solving sessions, and collaborative activities. Participants get the opportunity to interact with peers who share a passion for mathematics, enhancing both their skills and appreciation for the subject.

Workshop details
Grade 11 students from across Canada who exhibit strong performance in the Fermat Contest are invited to apply to the workshop.
Participants stay on campus at the University of Waterloo for a week and attend mathematics lectures, engage in problem-solving sessions, and enjoy social activities with peers. The Auckland workshop offers a unique platform to connect with talented math students from all over Canada, along with esteemed faculty members, educators and University of Waterloo students.
This workshop is offered in-person each Spring at the University of Waterloo. Participants stay at a campus residence and are chaperoned by university students, who also stay on site. Most meals will take place at the residence eatery, which offers a range of dietary options, including vegetarian, vegan and halal meals. We do our best to accommodate all dietary needs.
Based on their performance on the CEMC’s Fermat Contest, students are invited to apply for the Auckland workshop. From the applications, approximately 70 students are selected to register for and attend the workshop.
There is no fee to apply for the workshop. There is a $250 registration fee to be paid after selected applicants have received their confirmation package. This fee includes any applicable taxes, meals, travel expenses (if applicable), and accommodation. Financial support to cover the cost of the workshop may be arranged for students in need. For more information about financial support, please contact Fiona Dunbar.
