Information for Math Contest Managers

Thank-you!

We are grateful to all of the teachers and administrators in schools that provide their students these opportunities to enjoy and challenge themselves.

Instructions

After registering your school for the Pascal, Cayley, or Fermat, you will be mailed contest papers and forms in advance of the contest. The following information may answer questions that you have before receiving detailed instructions as part of the mailed package.

Arranging for students to write the contest

Before the contest

  • Ensure students carefully fill out the Student Information Forms. This can be done before the day of the contest or on the same day just before the contest is written.
  • If necessary, follow the instructions to accommodate a larger than expected number of students wishing to write the contest.
  • Distribute the contest materials and encourage careful reading of the student instructions.

During the contest

  • Most calculators are permitted.
  • Students may not use electronic translation devices.
  • Students are allowed to use rough paper, graph paper, rulers and compasses.
  • Put forth a “best effort” to maintain the integrity of the contest. For example, try to prevent communication between participants and ensure students work individually.

After the contest

  • Check that all forms have been filled out accurately.
  • Immediately mail all required papers to CEMC Office.
  • Encourage students to keep their question papers, discuss answers, and look up solutions when available online.
