Problem of the Week
Problem B
What Goes Where?

Mayala has ten number tiles, each with a different digit from \(0\) to \(9\). Help Mayala use all ten tiles, once each, to fill in the empty boxes in each problem.

  1. The following decimal numbers are written in order from least to greatest. Use the ten tiles to fill in the empty boxes. Can you find more than one solution?

    \(0.8\) , \(1.\Box\) , \(2.\Box\) , \(3.\Box\,\Box\) , \(\Box.\Box\) , \(3.\Box\) , \(4.\Box\) , \(\Box.5\) , \(5. \Box\)

  2. Place the ten tiles so that each of the following equations is correct.

    1. \(2. \Box + \Box .5 = 6.3\)

    2. \(3. \Box + \Box .4 =8.1\)

    3. \(6. \Box - \Box .2 =1. \Box\)

    4. \(7. \Box - \Box .3 =\Box .6\)

You may find it useful to create your own number tiles or cut out the number tiles below and use them to try possible solutions.
